What is the University Council?

In the University Council students and employees have influence on policy decisions and the state of affairs of the university. 18 representers can discuss these affairs with the Executive Board in this council. These 18 representers all obtained a chair during the elections. Nine of the seats are meant for students, the other nine are for staff. Together with the Executive Board these representers have committee meetings on certain topics. Besides, these 18 all take up a seat in the University Council which takes place 6 to 7 times a year.

University Council members have different rights. They have a right of consent on, for example, the headlines of the budget and the strategy of the university. On the other hand, there are also certain documents that are submitted for information or discussion or where the council can advise on. The members also have the right to submit initiatives themselves. The Executive Board is obliged to react to these initiatives.

Why vote?

For students the elections take place every year to divide the seats among the different parties. Every party has a certain vision and with this vision the party carries out certain views on different topics. The elections are a chance for students to get heard. The more votes a party gets, the more seats and more influence they will have in the University Council. This party also has the opportunity to submit own initiatives and in this way they can realize the ideas of their party program. With your vote you can support the party that represents your vision best and by doing this you can actually make a difference at Tilburg University.
